How to size a smart battery charger by amp-hours

Map battery Ah to an 8, 20, or 35 A charger class with a C/10 starting current — or accept NO_MATCH. Distinct from jump-starter peak cranking amps.

Start from amp-hours, not CCA

Smart chargers are sold by output in amps. CCA and peak cranking ratings describe starting power, not charge rate. This site maps battery amp-hours to three verified VEVOR US smart-charger classes using required_a = Ah ÷ 10 (C/10).

Why C/10 on this screen

C/10 (about 10% of Ah) is a long-standing overnight lead-acid shopping rule of thumb. ChargeAmps uses it as a transparent starting point, then picks the smallest class on this ladder (8 / 20 / 35 A) whose rated amps cover that current. Example: 200 Ah → 20 A → 20 A class. It is not a BMS limit and not a welding procedure specification.

Chemistry, voltage, and polarity

Lead-acid, AGM, gel, and LiFePO4 packs need matching charger modes and correct system voltage. Ventilate while charging; observe polarity; manufacturer charge limits may differ from C/10. Comparison on this site is limited to the VEVOR US ladder shown here.
